A memory foam mattress is a special mattress that you can have. Although it comes with many health benefits, it also comes with unwanted smell, as some units have a smell of gasoline after initially opening them. The smell or odor isn’t harmful, it’ll fade away over time. However, if it’s bothering you, you could do something about it so it’ll go away fast.
The Tips and Tricks
One of the things that you can do is to place it outside. With more air, the odor will leave quicker. You can also just leave your windows open or increase the air circulation by turning on your electric fan. Another idea is to leave it to an air-conditioned room. While the unit is turned on, it’ll suck the smell and allow it to fade away in the room.
Yet another way you can do to remove the initial smell of a memory foam mattress is to use a mop or wash your sheet every day. To cover up the smell that sticks to the sheet, you must use a fabric softener or conditioner.
If you don’t want to wash your sheet every day, you can go with odor absorbents. You can put some coffee grinds in a bowl and place it on your bed side table. Then, go and get a bowl of vinegar and leave it on the other side of the bed.
On the other hand, if you have ozonator machine, you can leave it running in a certain room where the memory foam mattress is found. Or you can use a steam cleaner (explained here), both these tips will make sure the smell goes away eventually.
As mentioned earlier, the odor that comes with a newly purchased memory foam isn’t toxic. However, if you’re bothered about it, you could get rid of the funny smell through the tips mentioned. Or you can just leave it there and allow the odor to evaporate in time.
